How did americans react to progress in acceptance of african americans?

Some Americans were glad with the laws and the amendments that were being put into place in America, but the other Americans were outraged, and started a racist terrifying clan called the KKK the clan would hide their identity by covering themselves with white sheets ride during night fall and kidnap, beat up, murder arson, bomb, or even lynch African Americans to terrify them not to vote, so in other words they were terrorists inside our country using hostile behavior to get they want.
