The case of Worcester v. Georgia was a case decided in 1832 between the state of Georgia and Samuel Worcester, a missionary on Native American lands. At the time, Georgia required that non-Native Americans have a permit to be able to enter Native American land. Samuel Worcester, a missionary who sympathized with the Indians, refused this and brought it to the Supreme Court through an injunction after being tried and convicted. The Supreme Court ruled the law unconstitutional as dealings with foreign and Indian nations was left exclusively to the national government. However, president Andrew Jackson opposed this ruling in hopes of letting the land go to the settlers and in the end, decided not to enforce it.
