Why did the virginia plan give congress the power to strike down laws made by state legislatures? what arguments could you make for or against giving congress this power?

The plan proposed by James Madison at the Philadelphia convention is known as the Virginia Plan. The most important thing about the Virginia plan is that it proposed a strong central government. Under the Articles of Confederation, the Federal government could act only on the states, not on the people while in Virginia plan the national government was given the power for making and enforcing its laws and collecting the taxes and each citizen to be governed under the authority of two governments. This sharing of power came to be known as the Federal system. It gave the power to the Central government to strike down the laws which are considered to violate the national constitution or the national interest. The power of congress to veto and override was important because it was meant for strengthening the union, which Articles of Federation failed to do, this veto power was a way to strengthen the Union.
