The confederate states of america, consisting of 11 southern states that withdrew from the united states in 1861. the confederacy fought the union in the civil war, which lasted from 1861 to 1865. after losing the war, the southern states rejoined the united states.

The southern states that had seceded had formed their own nation and went to war with the north. This caused the civil war which lasted four years. It caused many deaths and chaos.
