The following are the characteristics of Sumerian religion and society:

Religion:

1. The Sumerians were polytheistic, thus they worshiped many Gods and Goddesses.

2. The Sumerian gods usually had human characteristics.

3. Anu sometimes known as An was the god of the heavens and king of the gods was an important God of Sumerians.

4. The Sumerians try to make their gods happy by settling fights, planting crops, playing music and by building statues.

Society:

1. The social structure of the Sumerians was composed of four classes; Upper Class (priests,  government officials and landowners), Middle Common Class (merchants, craftspeople), Lower Middle Class ( farmers and fisherman) and Slaves.

2. The Sumerian city-states were ruled by a king that the Sumerians believed chosen by God. The king had the power of enacting laws, collecting taxes and led the armies.
