Describe how developed countries differ from developing countries in regard to city population and infrastructure.

From the 19th century onwards, cities have been more and more attractive economic hubs for people from all parts of society, both in countries which we now call developed, and those which we know as developing.

However, the quality of life of the city population differs significantly. People migrate from the rural countryside to big urban centers in developed and developing countries alike. However, in developing countries, up one-third of city residents lives in slums. They are more likely to work in informal sector (also known as grey economy). Even though the cities by definition offer more opportunity, the upward social mobility is extremely unlikely for those citizens.

As for infrastructure, enormous numbers of people in developing countries often lack access to even the most basic infrastructure, such as electricity, Internet, not to mention bad (or non-existent) roads and clean water. For example, more than 800 people in Yemen have died of cholera during the past month, because they lack clean drinking water.
