After Jackson's election to the presidency in 1828, why did his supports call him "the common man's" president?
He believed the electoral college was necessary to have fair elections.
More people were involved in the voting process and political campaigns were now
more focused on the middle/lower class.
Government officials were replaced with those who could do the job better and were
highly qualified.
Jackson put an end to the spoils system.
