John Calvin was born in France to a Catholic family, but he would become a major leader of the Protestant Reformation. His approach to religion is known as Calvinism. One of the significant ideas in Calvinism is that some humans are predestined to salvation, meaning that believers were chosen by God to be saved.

Calvin's most influential work was Institutes of the Christian Religion in 1536. In his preface, Calvin addresses the French king and asks him to ignore what Catholic
priests have said about Calvin and his system of beliefs. Read the excerpt. Then answer the question.
