To what extent has public response to violence economic against African Americans changed since 1955?

The public response to economic violence against African Americans has evolved and improved since 1955.  The Civil Right Act prevents discriminations in public accommodation, and hiring.  The federal government sets aside jobs and opportunities for minorities. Public colleges have set up affirmative action programs in an attempt remedy past examples of systemic racism.   President Johnson's Great Society program worked to lift many people both black and white out of poverty.
