What do you think the South looked like at the end of the war? How about the North?

Most of the Civil War was fought in the South, this was because of both of their war strategies. The South was on the defensive most of the time and the North was on the offensive. The South had a harder time obtaining and creating war goods because of their lack of industrialization like the North had, so they really had no choice but to stay put most of the time. The South also had the advantage of knowing their homeland and landscape during the battles.

Since most of the battles of the Civil War took place in the South, this meant that most of the destruction occurred there. After the Civil War, the South was really destroyed. Plantations and buildings had been burnt down, crops were gone, bodies were everywhere. They had used a lot of money during the Civil War and many people were broke, along with goods being scarce.

The opposite had happened in the North. After the Civil War, the Northern economy was booming, creating more factories and farms, which created more jobs and benefited everyone as a whole. The North did not suffer the same destruction the South did after the Civil War, as most of the battles did not take place in the North.
