In 1526, after winning the Battle of Panipat, Babur captured Delhi and founded the greatest dynasty of North India called the Mughal Empire. There were several reasons for the decline of the Mughal Empire. The Mughal Empire disintegrated with the death of Aurangzeb in 1707 A.D. Aurangzeb's death was followed by a war of succession and a weak successor. The sign of degeneration was evident in the institutions and administrative policies. The  Mughal army weakened with the deaths of able commanders. Foreign invasions of Nadir Shah and Ahmad  Shah Abdali weakened the strength of the Mughals and pushed the process of breakdown and emptied wealth. The Empire was challenged by Regional powers, which led to the rise of independent states.
