OUTLINE OF PROTECT 1. Describe the settlement and the different types of land use. 2. Identify specific features or land marks (natural and or human-made). Name these and mark them on your sketch map. 3. Suggest reasons for the location of this settlement. Settlements start places for different reasons, such as fertile soil , water availability, minerals, job opportunities, transport routes and trade. Refer to Grade 6 "why people live where they do". 4. Discuss decline and or growth of population of the settlement and suggest reasons. You will need to research this point. You may observe many new buildings in your settlement. This suggest the settlement is growing. Many empty buildings would suggest the settlement is declining. Suggest reasons why the population may be growing or declining 5. Identify and discuss one social or environmental issue. Social issues are about people such as living conditions, unemployment, lack of schools and clinics. Environmental issues are about the environment, such as pollution, destruction of woodland, soil erosion and wetland destruction. 6. Include interviews with community members, drawings, a sketch map and any other appropriate illustrative material.​
