Immediately following World War II, the Soviet Union controlled several countries behind what came to be called the Iron Curtain. Complete the following activities to gain a better understanding of the countries comprising the Iron Curtain and the USSR.

Hungary is to the east of Romania. Ukraine is 600,628 square kilometers in size, while Belarus is just 207,595 square kilometers in size. Evidently, Ukraine is nearly twice the size of Belarus. East Germany and Czechoslovakia were once part of the Iron Curtain but are no longer visible on the map. Of the countries that comprised the USSR, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Georgia are four you can still find on the map.
