The Russian realm has been in flux since the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991. Previous editions of the World Regional textbook have referred to this realm as The Former Soviet Union and Russia. The current edition, we are utilizing, adds the Central Asian countries to the Russian realm; these Central Asian countries were included in the North African/ Southwest Asian realm in the previous edition.
