I'd say this is because the internal pressure is influenced by people wanting you to be something more desirable to them, and this causes such stress and all this pressure on the person to change for others or to be someone they aren't because of other's criticism causes their decisions to be influenced by internal pressures. Criticism from oneself and being insecure also can cause this.

the triple alliance. germany and austria-hungary were already allies by 1879 when, worried about a threat from russia, they formed the dual alliance. italy joined the group in 1882. there was a concern about a possible attack from france and the alliance needed powerful friends to defend it.
