LESSON INTRODUCTION
The Middle Colonies
In the 1600s, both Holland and Sweden founded colonies in America. Peter Stuyvesant was the leader of New Netherland, and Johan Printz was the leader of New Sweden.
The Duke of York sent a fleet of ships to America to take control of these colonies. Once the English had control, the land was divided and renamed New York and New Jersey.
