The new modern era also brought changes to society and the economy when it came to American (people). After working and contributing to the war effort, women began to see, think, and act differently. Many began to seek employment outside of the house. As the jazz age rolled in, and lavish parties took over American society, women also began to dress differently, adopting a new culture of shorter skirts, shorter hair, and independent living. Many of these women were known as (people).

As American culture shifted to adopt more liberal values, there was a strong minority pushing back with their fundamentalist point of view. This debate brought about a major culture war in America. One example of this was the debate over the teaching of (terms) in schools. Fundamentalists did not believe that this should be taught to school aged children, and instead wanted the religious version of creation taught in schools. One teacher in Tennessee defied this idea and taught evolution in schools, his name was (people), and he was famously sued by the state.

One last group of Americans who saw major changes in the 1920’s and 1930’s were African Americans. As many more had moved from rural southern towns to (terms) areas following World War 1, there became a concentration of them in certain neighborhoods. One example of this was in Harlem, New York City. The explosion of African American culture during this time period in big cities was noticeable. In New York, this was known as the (terms). Though American society was still segregated and often racist, through their art, African Americans found a way to forge a new identity.
