¿Cuál es el tema del editorial que leímos al principio? En Ecuador subsiste un problema social extremadamente grave que sigue desatendido por la indiferencia
del Estado y por la tolerancia de la sociedad que aún no logra comprender su real dimensión: la violencia y
discriminación en contra de la mujer.
Un estudio del 2013, publicado por la Comisión de Transición de las Mujeres y la Igualdad de Género, señala
que las formas de violencia en contra de las mujeres no son hechos fortuitos y aislados, sino prácticas
generalizadas y sistemáticas llevadas a cabo por los varones para controlar, intimidar y subordinar a las
mujeres.
Es frecuente encontrar en los medios de comunicación noticias sobre femicidios y en muchos casos se
menciona que el agresor huyó. Recientemente, en la provincia del Guayas se reportaron tres asesinatos de
mujeres en 72 horas, dos de los asesinos fugaron. Entre el 2014 –año en que se tipificó el femicidio en el
Código Orgánico Integral Penal– y el 2018, en promedio se registró un femicidio cada tres días.
Las desigualdades por la condición de género, que son causas del femicidio, deben recibir mayor atención
en las esferas públicas y privadas para revisar los ideales culturales de lo masculino y lo femenino,
propendiendo a revalorizar a la mujer. Aminorar la impunidad es otro aspecto que debe atenderse con
