How has Roman sports change over time?

Roman sports used to be a lot more brutal, including gladiator fights and tons of killing, as well as their 'Olympics' which would just entail men, performing naked. Over time they switched to a more moral and less brutal entertainment, leading us to today and the universal Olympics.
