What did cueca supposedly originate with?

It is believed that Cueca originated from a regional dance called the Zamacueca.

This is a regional dance that has its origins in Spanish and African traditions that are indigenous.

They are said to have been danced in Peru and evolved during the colonial era.

Cueca has been around since 1824 and was danced on squares, events, and gatherings in Chile.

The cueca is a musical genre and a dance of mixed loose couples of the late eighteenth century. The dancers, who wear a handkerchief in their right hand, draw circular figures, with turns and half turns, interrupted by various flourishes. Generally, it is considered a dance of conquest of man to woman, although it does not necessarily have a loving motive.

The cueca would have originated in the zamacueca and this, in turn, in the Spanish jota and fandango dances.
