Clinton was the 42nd president of the US and a Democrat who created an economic plan to pull the US out of a 1980's recession cycle ending in a federal budget surplus.

The Clinton economic plan included reduced federal spending, lower interest rates, and increased taxes on the wealthy. Clinton reduced the federal budget by cutting government expenses, in particular military spending meanwhile bringing in more money from the increased taxes. The lower interest rates encouraged job creation and investment which also brought in more federal revenue. Clinton also signed NAFTA which allowed for free trade between the US, Canada, and Mexico. In addition, welfare reform reduced the federal contribution to welfare programs.
