Explanation:
The columns first appeared in Greek architecture during the 7th century BC and reached their peak with the construction of the Parthenon 200 years later. The three most common types of Greek columns are those of the Doric, Ionian, and Corinthian orders.
The styles of many columns used in architecture were invented millennia ago in Greece and these are the three main originators of columns developed by ancient Greece. These column styles are still used in constructions today.
The doric column is simple and has no basis. The Doric columns usually had statues of gods or heroes on top. The Doric order is the oldest, supposedly defined in its main features between 600 and 550 BC, the time of the oldest remains of known Greek temples, such as the Temple of Artemis in Corfu. The term "Doric" refers to the Dorians, people who occupied the Peninsular Greece, the Peloponnese peninsula, from 1200 BC, where this order originated.
Ionic columns are taller than Doric columns and their surface has carved lines from top to bottom. The base of an Ionic column looks like a pile of rings, and the capital at the top of the column appears to be a giant scroll. After the Doric order, the Ionic order developed from the fifth century BC in the region occupied by the Ionian a. From 1700 BC, the region of Athens, bordering the Aegean Sea, strongly influenced by the then Asian Greece, currently comprised of Turkey.
