The founding fathers wrote the declaration of independence because war impending but not inevitable. The founding fathers had observed rising tensions in the colonies, colonists were pushing against the British Parliament for imposing higher taxes, and Parliament was pushing back on the colonists for the ways in which they were rebelling. The rising tension snapped and war essentially erupted, and to keep Parliament from branding the colonists as violent traitors, the 2nd continental congress drafted the declaration of independence to keep the reputation of the colonists free.
