Chapter CXLVIII is an Act to provide for an exchange of lands with the Indians residing in any of the states or territories, and for their removal west of the river Mississippi. This is also known as “Indian Removal Act of 1830” which was signed and put into law on May 28, 1830 by President Andrew Jackson. This act powered the president to give unsettled lands in the west of the Mississippi River in exchange for the lands existing within the state borders of India.
