More specifically, some colonists remained loyal to Great Britain because they felt that they had a debt to pay for the protection Britain gave the colonists during the French and Indian War. Another specific factor would be that the Patriots, or rebels, were traitorous and in the eyes of the Britain supporting colonists, known as Loyalists, they were just "nasty, with no loyalty to the person who brought them here."
