What impact did the crusades have on medieval europe?

Crusades had a massive impact on medieval Europe as many lives of men from all around of Europe were lost, which means that certain communities surely experienced a lack of food due to a smaller working force. More importantly however, a lot of money was going into the Crusades as such undertakings required substantial financing. This in effect meant that European kingdoms where money was collected were also poorer. 

A prominent example was also the capture of king Richard of England for whom a huge ransom was required. When this was paid, England was left without money basically; this meant even more problems for a nation that did not have much money at this point anymore anyway.
