How did Mesopotamia (Ancient Iraq) become civilized? 
Mesopotamia became civilized after people groups came together, and started to create city-states, and they started to have common languages, traditions, and also started writing, which gradually led to the increase of knowledge, which helped propel the civilizations forward in technology. They also learned to create tools that helped them in their everyday tasks, which also made them more 'civilized', as 'civilized' means to be considered more advanced.
How did the fertile region help them do so? 
The fertile region helped them do so, because people need to eat, and because of that, they either have to plant food or gather wild-plants. The fertile region is called 'fertile region', because the soil is rich in nutrients, which helped farming. On top of that, the place gets more rainfall than the desert (because they are near a ocean). This resulted in the soil in the area to be much more richer and better.
