Why did many african americans migrate to northern and midwestern cities?

They were looking for employment

The Northern and Midwestern cities started growing rapidly because of industrialization and it created numerous job opportunities for everyone. Since the African-Americans had numerous problems in the south even after they were freed from slavery, they decided to move to other cities in large numbers in order to find employment.
