Why did members of the ku klux klan wear disguises? they were ashamed of their violent actions. they could be arrested for committing crimes. they did not want to know their fellow klansmen. they all worked for the federal government.

They could be arrested for committing crimes. A lot of these people went as far as to terrorizing their targets so they started wearing disguises such as white robs and hats to hide their identity when committing violent acts.

They could be arrested for committing these crimes. Although the Ku Klux Klan was a large group in 1870, they were also highly illegal. The Ku Klux Klan, better known as the "kkk", began wearing hoods to "scare" or "frighten" innocent people who were of a different race than caucasian. They had hoped that it would appear as the ghost of confederate soldiers.  However on April 20, 1871,  the Ku Klux act was passed and it became illegal to participate in any rituals or terrorization of innocent "colored" people.
