The Battle of Antietam which was also called as Battle of Sharpsburg took place in year 1862. The army of Confederate general Robert E. Lee’s army was pitted against general McClellan's army of Potomac and it was Lee’s last attempt to invade North. The outcome of this battle was important for shaping America’s future and this battle still remains among the deadliest battles every fought in American history. Majority of the troops that Lee had for this battle were hungry and sick. They were using wait and watch tactic of McClellan's army to assemble in creek’s east side.  McClellan's army outnumbered Lee’s army and that too by two to one but McClellan's thought that Lee had larger forces. The troops from both sides faced each other and the deadliest battle in American history started with just 15000 causalities in just eight hours of battle. As the night came, thousands of injured and dead-bodies were lying in the battlefield with majority of soldiers from both sides wounded and badly injured. Next morning, Lee begin the painstaking job and moved his troops back to Virginia but on the other hand McClellan did nothing. He kept union troops out of Richmond because McClellan was too cautious.
