The creation of maps and the science behind creating those maps allowed civilizations to travel for trade and conquest. These maps created a paper visual of the world for others to follow and use to navigate land and ocean routes. There is also an art to the creation of maps in deciding how physical features should be represented. Coloring, font, and presentation of the map are all important for use and beauty of the map.
