These changes to female employment were short lived. Even though women were a critical part of the war effort due to their ability to take over men's jobs, as soon as these men returned home after serving in the military things changed.

Men were given back their jobs from before the war and the GI Bill helped with financial assistance/house loans for World War II soldiers. Due to these factors, women were no longer seen as needed in many industry jobs, resulting in them staying at home and raising the family. This role was very similar to the one women experienced before the war began.
