Gerald Rudolf Ford Jr became the president after the resignation of Richard Nixon who resigned  August 9th 1974  due to a scandal known as the Watergate scandal.

Gerald Ford was president from 1974 to  1977. He is the only non elected president of the United States. He  was best known for the personal qualities he exhibited among which was a down -to- earth attitude which made people feel at home with him. He was quite a good athlete.

His wife Betty Ford brought a family feeling back to the state house. She promoted the fight against breast cancer and opened the Betty Ford  Clinic also which helped people with alcoholism.
