This posed a threat because the soviet union could offer help to the communist society hence taking control of Greek and Turkey. Aid was given to Greek and turkey by the United States for political and military reasons, this was because both countries were still holding off the communist threats. The United States was fearful of a third world war hence they needed a military advantage over the Soviet Union in case of a conflict
