In order to try and slow down the Arms Race,the countries agreed to reduce arme through the SALT II agreements, SALT stood for Statgetic Arms Limitation Talks. For the most part,the Arms Race came to an end with the collapse of the Sovient Union at the end of the Cold War in 1991
