I think the answer is b.  Many Americans came to Texas were slave owners from the South.  Though some converted to Catholicism, they refuse to relinquish their system of slavery.  Some still practice their faith as Protestant missionary slipped into Texas.  Slavery was outlawed in Mexico and as more and more Americans came with their slaves, conflict eventually broke out into war for Texan Independence.
