Political change had the most impact on southern life. Because the south lost the Civil War, the slaves working the cotton were free and didn’t have to work anymore. The south also had to obey whatever the North side wanted, anything from taking land to taxes.

The social and political changes faced the most challenges. Because they were defeated in the Civil War, they had to adapt to what the North wanted to do. The segregation and slave labor changed because the North were partially abolitionists.
