Why do you think the lynching of emmett till became a catalyst in the national movement for civil rights?

Emmett Till was an African-American child who lived in the north and visited the south. When he was brutalized and murdered, it sparked a movement to stop violence like this. I included a picture of Emmett Till to give you an idea.
