What were the key issues in the lincoln-douglas debates?

Well since Douglas was a southern leader of the time of the civil war many believe that he was for slavery when he was trying to get the presidency when most voters were southern men because they owned most of the land but they were wrong so Lincoln won so the big issue was Yes slavery Or No slavery
