The American welfare state is very generous to some groups and much less generous to others. For example, the elderly receive many benefits from the welfare state, while young people receive relatively few benefits other than education. Likewise, the middle class enjoys many secure benefits, while the poor's access to benefits is much less certain. In what ways do these benefit patterns reflect American values? Do you think these patterns should be changed? 2) Also, should our local, state, or national government or private charities and organizations take the lead in trying to solve our social or domestic problems, such as poverty, affordable housing, affordable education, food insecurity, and affordable healthcare? Explain your choice of which entity should lead.
