Data enumerating the amount of time detectives spend investigating various types of offenses are very scarce. Worse yet, information is nonexistent about the likelihood of case clearance relative to time spent and investigative techniques utilized. Why is information about how detectives spend their time, and results thereby obtained, so difficult to collect?
