Mount Carmel Academy (MCA), an all-girls Catholic school in Nola, is facing a lawsuit. A girl who is wheelchair-bound because she has cerebral palsy wants to attend the school, but the school turned her down. The girl has As and Bs from her current school, but MCA says that they can’t accommodate the girl. Somehow they are excluded from the Americans With Disabilities Act, but shouldn’t they do what’s morally right? 1. What is the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA)?
2. Should institutions like Catholic schools be excluded from the ADA?
3. Does MCA have a legal and moral responsibility to accept this student?
4. If you were an attorney, would you represent MCA or the girl and her family? Explain your answer
