The outcome of the Blackwater case was a very extensive investigation conducted by the UN, the US government and military, and the Iraqi government, finding that the agents involved with the shootings were guilty of manslaughter and purposeful murder. After this event, the use of private security companies was evaluated and outlawed the use of mercenaries in wartime zones. Blackwater was suspended from Iraq, which was not permanent, but the agents were legally punished by the US government. The American government was granted immunity only because the employment of private security companies (especially internationally) did not have legal outlines to show the things that could and could not be done. The laws surrounding this topic are very difficult to determine because there are so many different aspects to consider. After the evaluation of the Blackwater events, private security personnel hired by the government/military is monitored much more closely.
