How does pemdas work? ! it always confuses me!

PEMDAS stands for:

P - Parentheses

E - Exponents

M - Multiplication

D - Division

A - Addition

S - Subtraction

here is a very easy example

56 + 41 x 14 - 12

the multiplication would come first.

= 56 + 574 - 12

then addition.

= 630 - 12

and for the final step we subtract.

= 618!

We get the final answer of 618!
