How do you graph the equation 5x+2y=20

 Draw the line through the points (0,10) and (4,0)

Discussion :

Subtract 5x from both sides of the equation  5x + 2y = 20. This gives

2y = 20 - 5x.

Divide both sides by 2 gives

y = -(5/2)x + 10

So, this is the equation of a line with slope -5/2 (the y values decreases as x increases).

The points (0,10) and (4,0) were obtained by substituting the values in the equation. For example, for x = 0

5x + 2y = 20

5*0 + 2y = 20

0 +  2y = 20

2y = 20

y = 10

So the line passes through the point x = 0, y = 10 or  (0,10)

you can't solve x because it is 2 linear equation and you only have one equation
