This question is simply asking you to find the x and y intercepts, which can be found by taking y as zero & x as zero, respectively. These intercepts are points that cross the x-axis or the y-axis. Consequently, by finding the intercepts you will be finding the values of A, B, C & D.

For example, to find values of A, B & C, you should note that they belong to the x-intercept, meaning you must put the value of y equal to zero (i.e y=0). Ultimately you will be solving for x, meaning you isolate x on its own to find its value.

Write the equation as it is helps as a starting point.

f(x)=y= | 3x + 1 | - 8
0 = | 3x + 1 | - 8
8 = | 3x + 1 |
Since the x is enclosed inside the absolute value sign, an absolute value produces two values: one negative & the other positive, since a value or equation inside an absolute value sign CANNOT be negative.

Thus, 3x + 1 = 8 or 3x + 1 = -8. You must now solve the two equations.

3x + 1 = 8
3x = 7
x = 7/3

3x + 1 = -8
3x = -9
x = -3

Note that if you look at the value denoted by A, it is singular and in a whole form, whereas B & C make up one number, hinting that it is a quotient.

Therefore, A = -3 , B= 7, C = 3 (B/C= 7/3).
