All butterflies are insects. a morpho is a butterfly. therefore, a morpho is an insect. deductive reasoning has three parts: the first premise, second premise and the conclusion. the first premise states all objects classified as butterfly have the characteristics of an insect. the second premise states a morpho is classified as a butterfly. the conclusion then states a morpho must be an insect because it inherits this characteristic from the classification as a butterfly. the final statement in deductive reasoning must be true, unlike with inductive reasoning where the conclusion can be false. for example, gina is a mother. gina has blonde hair. therefore, all mothers have blonde hair. the last statement is false, which would make it inductive reasoning. my daughters love butterflies and every time we see one in the yard they always ask me what kind of butterfly it is, which led me to a lot of time on google looking up different species of butterflies.
