The scores of high school seniors on the ACT college entrance examination in a recent year had a mean of 19.2 and a standard deviation of 5.1. The distribution of scores is not exactly Normal (ACT score is clearly not a continuous variable) but the Normal curve is a close approximation. (I will show an example in class.)
