An automotive manufacturer removes the friction linings from the clutch plates of drag race cars following test runs. A sampling of 20linings for wear show the following values (in m):233.0, 245.0, 197.0, 177.0, 176.0, 150.0, 196.0, 178.0, 190.0, 241.0, 204.5, 231.1, 157.5, 190.5, 261.6, 127.0, 216.6, 172.7, 243.8, 291.0. Based on this sample, approximately how many clutch plates out of a large set will be expected to show wear of lessthan 180m?Hint: The problem is simple if we can assume "large sample". For the number of samples above, compare the value to tv, P=95% and z1 at 95% (double sided). If they are similar, then you can assume the above data are a "large sample" and the sample mean and st. dev are good approximations for the population (large sample) values. You should be able to find z1and solve from there.
