Kobak is a hapless competitor to Kodak and also produces film-development chemicals. The black-and-white (B&W) chemical costs $250 a gallon to produce, while their color treatment chemical costs $300 to make.
Based on current inventory and recent orders, the production team has specified that at least 30 gallons of
B&W and 20 gallons of color chemical need to be produced this month. To avoid ruining perishable raw
materials by not using them this month, Kobak should make at least 60 gallons of chemical in total this month.
How much of each chemical should Kobak make to minimize their cost this month?
Let x represent the gallons of black-and-white chemical and y represent the gallons of color chemical.
4. Define the objective function.
5. Express the black-and-white chemical constraint as an inequality.
